Brainspotting

“Where you look affects how you feel.”

What is Brainspotting?

“Brainspotting allows us to harness the brain’s natural ability for self-scanning so we can activate, locate, and process the sources of trauma and distress in the body. ”

- David Grand, PhD, founder of Brainspotting

Brainspotting (BSP) is a relatively new psychotherapy designed to help you access and process past traumas that have been affecting your daily life. By being curious during this mindful process, you will notice that “where you look affects how you feel.”

During a Brainspotting session, you will describe an issue or incident that has been affecting your daily life and consequently triggering certain body sensations.  We would then find an area in your visual field, also known as a “brainspot” to help you process these memories and/or emotions. When doing Brainspotting, you will notice that where you look affects how you feel.

Can Brainspotting work for me?

I can go on and tell you about theory, but that is not what you really want to know. The real question is would it help me?

The answer is yes, if you are ready to dive in and go deeper into your internal world and be uncomfortable to get to where you want to be.  Everyone is different and unique as BSP can be internalized in your body differently.

Brainspotting has been shown to be effective in helping clients who are experiencing:

  • Anxiety

  • Trauma

  • Chronic Pain

  • Sports performance trauma

  • Grief & Loss

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

There are few things I would like you to know going forward:

  1. You are not alone in this experience.

  2. You are the expert of what you need to heal.

  3. You have resources that you obtained throughout your life, and you will enhance them to help you in your journey in alleviating your symptoms.

Can Brainspotting be used along with other different types of therapies?

Brainspotting is unique as it can be used independently and be integrated with other psychotherapies such as Internal Family Systems and Somatic Experiencing.
